Vinci and its surroundings

Vinci is an ancient medieval village, birthplace of the great artist and intellectual Leonardo da Vinci. It is situated on the hillside of Montalbano, in the hearth of Tuscany, approximately 35 km from Florence and in proximity to other great artistic towns in Tuscany, such as Lucca, Pisa, Pistoia and Siena.
The town of Vinci, together with others in the region of the Empolese Valdelsa (i.e. Capraia e Limite, Castelfiorentino, Cerreto Guidi, Certaldo, Empoli, Fucecchio, Gambassi, Montaione, Montelupo Fiorentino and Montespertoli), safeguards the extremely rich natural, historical and artistic heritage of Italian Renaissance.
The area is particularly recommended for those who love hiking surrounded by nature, archaeological sites, ancient woods and charming vineyards.
The Museum Leonardiano, inside the medieval walls of Vinci, is a must-see, as it is Leonardo’s birthplace in Anchiano.
